NEW VISA RESTRICTIONS ON TOURIST AND BUSINESS VISA
 
1. TOURIST VISA
Tourist visa allows the bearer to enter Vietnam for touristic and leisure purposes only and stay for a predetermined amount of time. This visa does not entitle the holder to work or engage in any business activities in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese government has given tourist visa holders the advantages of extending the visa and issued automatic stay extension (for those who entered Vietnam after March 1, 2020) to support foreign citizens stranded in Vietnam with the legal rights to stay waiting for repatriation flights back to their home countries.

There is not any official announcement that tourist visa extension will be stopped or people on a tourist visa will be deported out of Vietnam. Some people are getting approved and some are not.

If you luckily find a job in Vietnam, you should ask your company to apply for a work permit, then do a temporary residence card soon.

What documents are required for a Vietnam tourist visa extension?
  • We will need your original passport, and proof of residency (where you are registered with local police).
  • Those who entered Vietnam through northern borders (Da Nang to Ha Giang) and have a temporary residence address in the North will get a visa extended at the Immigration Department in Hanoi.
  • Those who entered Vietnam through southern borders (Kontum to Long An) and have a temporary residence address in the South will get a visa extended at the Immigration office in Ho Chi Minh City.

2. BUSINESS VISA
- If you are holding a business visa sponsored by the company you are working for it is legal and you can get it extended for 1 or 3 months (in case you don’t have a work permit).
If you want to get a longer visa (above 3 months) you must apply for a work permit.

- If your current BUSINESS VISA IS NOT SPONSORED BY THE COMPANY YOU ARE WORKING FOR there will be 2 cases:

► Those who entered Vietnam through northern borders (Da Nang to Ha Giang): you will be UNABLE TO GET VISA EXTENDED. You must have a sponsor to renew your visa. If the company has the approval to employ foreigners you will be able to get 3 months. Otherwise, you can only get a 1-month visa renewal.

► Those who entered Vietnam through southern borders (Kontum to Long An): you will be able to get a visa extended. Please contact us for more details.
