Temporary resident card for investors or investor visa is issued by the immigration agency under the Ministry of Public Security to foreign investors in Vietnam. These visa holders could be the owners, capital-contributing members or shareholders of foreign invested companies and representatives of foreign investors. The investor visa permits the investors to transit through, enter, and exit the country for one to ten years. Read this post for more details of investor visa
Investor visa types and validity
Temporary resident card (TRC) for investors or investor visa in Vietnam is valid from one to ten years, depending on the amount of contributed capital, as follows:

1. TRC – symbolized ĐT1: up to 10 years
Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with a capital contribution of one hundred (100) billion or more or invested in the field and area priority given by the Government’s decision.
The duration of a ĐT1 temporary residence card shall not exceed 10 years.

2. TRC – symbolized ĐT2: up to 5 years 
Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with the contributed capital of from fifty (50) billion dong to less than one hundred (100) billion dong or into domains and areas where investment is encouraged under decisions of the Government.

The duration of a ĐT2 temporary residence card shall not exceed 05 years.

3. TRC – symbolized ĐT3: up to 3 years 
Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with the contributed capital of from three (3) billion to under fifty (50) billion.
The duration of a ĐT3 temporary residence card shall not exceed 03 years.


4. Investor visa – symbolized ĐT4: up to 12 months
Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and representatives of foreign organizations investing in Vietnam with contributed capital of less than three (3) billion”.
Investors using a ĐT4 visa are not eligible for a TRC.

SPECIAL NOTE:
- The duration of a temporary residence card is at least 30 days shorter than the remaining duration of the passport.
- Expired temporary residence cards are considered for granting new ones.
How to apply for an Investor Visa when staying inside Vietnam?
1. Prepare the following required documents:
- Original and valid passport (the duration of a temporary residence card is at least 30 days shorter than the remaining duration of the passport);
- Enterprise Registration Certificate or Investment Registration Certificate (certified copy) of invested company in Vietnam;
- Temporary residence registration form;
- Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the business operating in Vietnam (Form NA16);
- Application form for Visa issuance, stay extension (Form NA5)
For temporary residence foreigners in Vietnam; 
- 02 photos in size of 4x6cm - portrait photo with white background;
- Proof of legal status;
- Letter of invitation from the company sponsoring you;
- Lawyer license if you are a lawyer;

Once you have acquired all the necessary paperwork, present it to the Vietnam Immigration Department in Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City, depending on where your business is located.

2. Processing time: The Vietnam Investor Visa takes 5-7 working days to process, after which it will be stamped in your passport (for Investor visa – symbolized ĐT4) or you will get a temporary residence card.

3. Fees: It depends on current visa you have and the duration of your investor visa. 
 
How to apply for an Investor Visa when staying outside Vietnam?

Investor visa symbolized ĐT4 with validity up to 12 months can be granted at the embassy of Vietnam in a foreign country or at any international airports in Vietnam on your arrival (temporary residence cards with validity from 2 years can only be granted in Vietnam). 
You must first get a Visa Approval Letter from the Vietnam Immigration Department to be granted an investor visa.
Foreign investors who are outside Vietnam can have their agent/ employee (of their business or its representative in Vietnam) obtain the Approval Letter to get their ĐT4 visa at the embassy in a foreign country or at any international airports in Vietnam on their arrival. 


1. Prepare the following required documents:
- A scanned copy of valid passport (the duration of a temporary residence card is at least 30 days shorter than the remaining duration of the passport);
- Enterprise Registration Certificate or Investment Registration Certificate (certified copy) of invested company in Vietnam;
- Registration form for the seal and signature of the legal representative of the business operating in Vietnam (Form NA16);
- Application form for Visa issuance, Form NA2 with Barcode for foreigners outside Vietnam;
- Proof of legal status;
- Letter of invitation from the company sponsoring you;
- Lawyer license if you are a lawyer;


2. Submit above necessary paperwork to the Vietnam Immigration Department's office in Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City, depending on where your business is located.
- Those who want to get a visa on arrival at the airport must indicate clearly the port of entry
- Those who prefer not to stand waiting to get a visa on arrival at the airport or those who enter Vietnam by land can get visa stamped at Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate in their home country. It can speed up visa process at the Vietnamese Embassy/ Consulate with our visa approval code. You must indicate clearly location of the Vietnamese Embassy/ Consulate where you want to pick up your visa (this can't be changed after your visa has been approved).

3. Receive the visa approval letter after 5-7 working days. The Vietnam Immigration Department will issue the visa approval letter to your company’s employee on the scheduled date after receiving payment for the visa letter fee.

3.1. Pick up your investor visa at the embassy/ consulate:
You can now apply for your investor visa at the nearby Vietnam embassy or consulate general with the following documents: 
- A valid and original passport with at least six months validity remaining;
- A print-out of the Approval Letter issued by Vietnamese Immigration Department;
- Two 4x6cm photos (white background, straight head, no sunglasses);
- A fully filled application form (form NA5): the form is available for download at official website of embassies. Completed form must be printed out, signed and attached with 01 photo (passport size 2x2 inches). Application form can be filled at the Embassy if applying in person;
- A return self-addressed prepaid envelope for the applicant if applying by post;
- Stamp fee: depend on the type of visa you apply for, the duration of your stay, the number of intended entries and the purpose of your trip. Please contact the Consular Section of the Embassy for details.

Processing time at the embassy/ consulate can take up to 5–7 working days. To receive your passport with the investor visa, you must be at the Vietnam Embassy or Consulate General on the scheduled date.

Apart from the visa letter fee, you need to pay for a stamp fee to get a visa sticker on your passport. The stamp fee needs to be paid directly at the Vietnamese Embassy/Consulate. Visa fees are various and depend on the length of stay and visa types, purpose of the trip, etc. Please contact the Consular Section of the Embassy for details. 

After arrival, head straight to the passport control.

3.2. Pick up your investor visa on arrival at the indicated international airport in Vietnam: 
Instead of sending your original passport along with required documents for Vietnam visa by post or coming in person to the Embassy of Vietnam, you can now get your investor visa on arrival (for those who arrive by air only)


On your arrival at the airport, head to the "Visa on Arrival or Landing Visa" counter, provide the following documents to have the visa stamped on your passport: 
- A valid and original passport with at least six months validity remaining;
- A print-out of the approval letter:
- A full-filled Vietnamese visa application form (form NA1) with one passport-size photo affixed on the form;
- One 4x6cm photo (white background, straight head, no sunglasses);
- Visa stamping fee depends on the type of visa you apply for, the duration of your stay, the number of intended entries and the purpose of your trip. 

The actual visa shall be granted after the immigration unit completes checking applicant’s information and letter of visa approval. Then you will go through the passport control on exit.
